Barvyn is also known as the City of Tombs because it is surrounded by fields of ancient tombs and graves. Barvyn grew around a stronghold at the edge of the Forest of Bones. The city was once the capital of a powerful kingdom which fell to hordes of undead in the Surge of the Ancient, about 650 years ago. Although Barvyn was conquered and destroyed several times, people have always returned to the city to rebuild it.Â
The streets of Barvyn are narrow alleys and the buildings are mostly grey stone structures that rise several storeys high. A sturdy stone wall protects the city and the heavily fortified gates are always kept closed at night. The city is ruled by the priests of a death cult that reveres the departed souls and the goddess Atarna. The High Priest is seldom seen and there are rumors that he is undead.
